Andrea & Scott {Engaged}

On average, clients tend to book me for their wedding photography around 6-12 months before their wedding date. Andrea & Scott, however, booked me over 2 years ago, so it was great to photograph them both together at long last for their pre-wedding shoot!

The location for the session meant a lot to Scott in particular, as it was where his late beloved grandad lived, just outside Doncaster in Owston Ferry. Andrea was so nervous about the shoot, but after a couple of minutes she was more than fine, and started to dare i say it, ‘love’ the camera!

Ann-Marie + Richard {enaged}

I first met Ann-Marie & Richard 3 years ago when they attended a wedding that I photographed. ‘Attended’ is probably the wrong word as Ann-Marie was a bridesmaid! Around 2 years ago, the couple booked me to photograph their very own wedding. This takes place in less than two weeks when they’ll be walking down the aisle together, before celebrating their wedding at Mount Pleasant Hotel in Doncaster.

The weather couldn’t have been better for their pre-wedding shoot with late directional evening light, a pleasant 22c and not too many peschy flys about to bug us!

Clumber Park in Nottinghamshire is one of my favourite locations. It’s so easy to travel to being just a mile or so from the A1 near Retford, yet when you are within it, it’s virtually silent except for the birds chirping.- No matter what season you visit, the scenery that meets you is quite beautiful -a perfect location for a summer portrait shoot!

Gemma & Stevie {Engaged!}

In less than 2 months time, Gemma & Stevie tie the knot at Tankerlsey Manor. To say that they’re excited is an understatement, and understandably so! Before heading on their respective Hen & Stag dos, they called me up to arrange for their pre-wedding photo shoot. Gemma chose the location of Cusworth Hall, as this holds a special place in her heart – it’s where Stevie romantically proposed to her. He wasn’t looking forward to the shoot saying that he wasn’t photogenic and would feel like an idiot! I specifically chose places where members of the public (with the odd exception!) didn’t see us, enabling them to relax. By looking at the photos below, I don’t think he scrubs up to bad after all! Gemma is an absolute natural in front of the camera- she looks simply stunning.

Marie & Bryn {Married!}

The stunning Linden Hall in Northumberland was the venue for my final winter wedding of 2010. The wedding took place between Christmas and New Yea, when I had the pleasure of photographing Marie & Bryn’s big day. Linden Hall is situated north of Newcastle, just outside Jesmond. Although the happy couple live down in Barnsley, South Yorkshire, Bryn had proposed the previous year on a beautiful deserted beach in Northumberland. Having searched for the perfect venue nearby, they came across Linden Hall and fell in love with it. Having photographed there, I can now see why!

You couldn’t meet a nicer and more friendly couple than Marie and Bryn. Nothing was too much trouble for them. When I asked Marie if she minded if I photographed her in the snow, she jumped at the chance and put her wellies on! I just wish that I’d brought mine with me, as I had the most porous and cold shoes on that I could have picked! The shots that we got were more than worth it though! Marie & Bryn went out of their way to make me feel part of their big day. You only have to look at the wedding photos below to see just how much fun the couple (and their guests) had throughout the day.

For the photographers who read my blog, the wedding was photographed using just two prime lenses throughout the day; the new Nikon 35mm and 85mm f1.4s. Wedding photography in winter gives you the added pressure of photographing in diminishing light. You could simply pop a flash gun on top of your camera and get ‘ok-ish’ shots, or you can work for your money and seek out just the right quality of the ambient light. By using high ISOs and high apertures (low f stops), there is still no reason to use flash. That is my honest opinion, although others may argue otherwise. Ultra high apertures allow light to flood into the camera’s sensor and also enables you to generate gorgeous out of focus ‘bokeh’ behind your subject.

Annoushka & Chris {Married!}

I jumped in my car, ready to head south to the Priest House Hotel in Donington. As I turned the ignition key on my car, the temperature said -10C! Luckily, most of the snow from the previous week had vanished, otherwise, a two hour journey would have taken 6 hours, and I’d have needed a JCB to get me out of my street! Despite the freezing and rather murky weather, I had a fantastic time photographing the gorgeous wedding of Annoushka and Chris. The bride and groom’s pre- wedding shoot a couple of months back, was also photographed at The Priest House. Annoushka and Chris are such a warm and happy go lucky couple. We re-enacted some of the pre shoot photos with the chalk board during the wedding reception in the photo booth. You only have to count the amount of smiles and laughs in the wedding photos below to see what a perfect match Annoushka and Chris are!

Kristie & Pete {Married}

A bride’s worst nightmare, a giant cold sore!! This was what Kristie phoned me to tell me a few days before her wedding to Pete. The panic in her voice was for real! I reassured her that things would be fine, and with the help of mother nature, a touch of concealer, and carefully taken wedding photography, when the big day came, nobody could tell – she looked simply stunning! Kristie & Pete became husband and wife at their local Edlington Catholic Church. The venue for the beautiful wedding reception which followed, was at the Warmsworth Holiday Inn, adjacent to Warmsworth Hall, Doncaster.

I’ve known Kristie for a few years now, and her mother Fiona for even longer. Fiona in particular was so so proud of her daughter on her wedding day. The heavens had threatened to open throughout the day, but luckily, the rain held off. There was a fantastic atmosphere right through the day; it was a real pleasure to be part of it. The Holiday Inn and Warmsworth Hall is a fantastic location for a wedding, offering the beauty of the historical hall itself and the friendly and helpful staff of the Holiday Inn complex.

Would Ya?! – Pre Wedding Photography Shoot {Anoushka & Chris}

‘WOULD YA?’ is what Chris’s T-Shirt said on his first date with Anoushka! We created his marriage proposal using a chalk board, lots of fun, smiles, and the beautiful county backdrop of the Priest House Hotel, near Castle Donnington. Anoushka and Chris tie the knot at the Priest House Hotel in the middle of December for their wedding. That seems like such a long way away, but it’ll be here before we all know it! We were joined on the pre-wedding photography shoot by Chris’s cute little son Charlie. My chalkboard came into use when he fell over on a gravel track. Luckily his little hands landed on the chalk board, preventing any grazes or tears!!

Autumn is my favourite time of year. The rustic colours just scream, ‘photograph me!’. I decided to use the autumnal backdrop of a small but beautiful wood in Cantley, Doncaster to photograph Sarah & John. The portrait session meant a lot to me, as Sarah & John were my first EVER wedding clients!!!! They are clearly just as much in love now, as they were back when I was their wedding photographer……and I’m just as happy, as in no small measure to them, I now have the best job in the world!!

Hellaby Hall Wedding Photography {Vicky & Matt}

Hellably Hall, between Maltby and Rotherham, in South Yorkshire, was the venue for the wedding of Matt & Vicky. Vicky was convinced that it would rain throughout her wedding day…….the only time that it did rain, was during the meal time, so she needn’t have worried! Hellaby Hall is great setting for a wedding. Along with being a beautiful location, the staff will always bend over backwards to help you. I’ve been so lucky to be the wedding photographer for some fantastic clients this year, and Vicky & Matt continued my good luck. They are nearly as laid back as me! They laughed (and cried) through out the day, and started the wedding reception off with a stunning (and extremely funny!) first dance…containing the sloppy love song, Single Ladies (put a ring on it), Crank That, and an hilarious rendition of the River Dance, a blond wig for Matt, amongst others!!

Hellaby Hall Wedding Photographer {Lisa & Matt}

Lisa & Matt recently tied the knot at Hatfield Church on the outskirts of Doncaster, followed by the wedding breakfast at Hellaby Hall. My good friend Paul Wilson, the vicar of Hatfield, carried out the beautiful service, before Lisa and Matt and the wedding congregation headed off to Hellably Hall. Hellaby is such a fantastic setting for a wedding, with beautiful gardens, historic buildings and fantastic staff!

I’ve known both Lisa & Matt for a number of years, and it was an honour when they approached me last year and asked me to photograph their wedding. As the photographs below show, the day was full of love and laughter all the way (and sunshine!!)
