Marie & Bryn {Married!}

The stunning Linden Hall in Northumberland was the venue for my final winter wedding of 2010. The wedding took place between Christmas and New Yea, when I had the pleasure of photographing Marie & Bryn’s big day. Linden Hall is situated north of Newcastle, just outside Jesmond. Although the happy couple live down in Barnsley, South Yorkshire, Bryn had proposed the previous year on a beautiful deserted beach in Northumberland. Having searched for the perfect venue nearby, they came across Linden Hall and fell in love with it. Having photographed there, I can now see why!

You couldn’t meet a nicer and more friendly couple than Marie and Bryn. Nothing was too much trouble for them. When I asked Marie if she minded if I photographed her in the snow, she jumped at the chance and put her wellies on! I just wish that I’d brought mine with me, as I had the most porous and cold shoes on that I could have picked! The shots that we got were more than worth it though! Marie & Bryn went out of their way to make me feel part of their big day. You only have to look at the wedding photos below to see just how much fun the couple (and their guests) had throughout the day.

For the photographers who read my blog, the wedding was photographed using just two prime lenses throughout the day; the new Nikon 35mm and 85mm f1.4s. Wedding photography in winter gives you the added pressure of photographing in diminishing light. You could simply pop a flash gun on top of your camera and get ‘ok-ish’ shots, or you can work for your money and seek out just the right quality of the ambient light. By using high ISOs and high apertures (low f stops), there is still no reason to use flash. That is my honest opinion, although others may argue otherwise. Ultra high apertures allow light to flood into the camera’s sensor and also enables you to generate gorgeous out of focus ‘bokeh’ behind your subject.

Gyp in the Snow!

I’m stranded at home!! The snow is 20″ deep and is literally up to the top of my tyres on my car. I had my two adorable dogs, gyp and hobo out in the snow this morning, so thought I’d grab a few shots and share them with you! Hobo is a bit camera shy in his old age, so I’ll post some of him soon, when he’s not looking!!

I enjoy meeting couples before the big day and we always have a great time during the informal pre wedding shoots – Nigel and Johanna’s was no exception. The photo session took place in the idyllic hamlet of Wiseton, just outside Bawtry., Doncaster Due to thick snow and fog I had to abandon my car and having become stranded, I was rescued by the lovely couple! The winter weather really made these images look special. I’m looking forward to photographing their wedding day in July, which will provide a spectacular contrast between these photos. I can’t wait!

Mount Pleasant Wedding Photography { Gemma & Adam }

Snow, snow and more snow formed the backdrop to Gemma and Adam’s wedding reception which I photographed at Mount Pleasant, Doncaster . The wedding ceremony took place at one of my favourite churches, St Lawrence’s Church, Hatfield, Doncaster. Architecturally the church is impressive and provided a fantastic setting for their wedding photography. The church also has an interesting history filled with intrigue, which added to the atmosphere of the big day .

The Reverend Paul Wilson carried out the wedding service. I have always found his services to be full of humour and love and this occasion was no exception, he made the ceremony personal and memorable for the bride and groom. Paul is also a great photographer in his own right.

As Gemma & Adam walked down the aisle as husband and wife, they were met with one of the heaviest blizzards in living memory, as they left the church! The reception was held at the Mount Pleasant Hotel, a journey which ordinarily takes only 10 minutes, took 45 minutes due to the weather. On arrival at Mount Pleasant everyone was served wine and cocktails which soon warmed up the wedding party!

Gemma & Adam were fantastic clients to work with, and both looked truly beautiful throughout the day. Thank you for letting me photograph and capture your big day, a short collection of my favourite photos can be found below.
