The church service took place at St Margaret’s church in Swinton, near Rotherham, with the wedding breakfast and reception at Warmsworth Holiday Inn, near Doncaster. Some vicars can be quite obstructive towards  photography during the ceremony, however, Father Barley couldn’t have been more accommodating to both myself and the guests. I just wish every vicar was as helpful!

The only downside to the day, was the weather which varied between heavy clouds and rain, not this effected Marie & Brian in anyway. When they arrived at Warmsworth Holiday Inn for the reception, I spent 10 minutes with the newly weds down at Warmsworth Hall and quickly captured a selection of ‘posed’ images. Both Marie & Brian wanted their wedding photography to be as natural and relaxed as possible, which suited me down to the ground.

Despite his illness, Tommy not only walked Marie down the aisle, but stayed throughout the wedding breakfast and in to the evening reception. I’ll never forget the courage and love that he showed Marie & Brian on their big day.

You couldn’t meet a nicer and more friendly couple than Marie and Bryn. Nothing was too much trouble for them. When I asked Marie if she minded if I photographed her in the snow, she jumped at the chance and put her wellies on! I just wish that I’d brought mine with me, as I had the most porous and cold shoes on that I could have picked! The shots that we got were more than worth it though! Marie & Bryn went out of their way to make me feel part of their big day. You only have to look at the wedding photos below to see just how much fun the couple (and their guests) had throughout the day.

For the photographers who read my blog, the wedding was photographed using just two prime lenses throughout the day; the new Nikon 35mm and 85mm f1.4s. Wedding photography in winter gives you the added pressure of photographing in diminishing light. You could simply pop a flash gun on top of your camera and get ‘ok-ish’ shots, or you can work for your money and seek out just the right quality of the ambient light. By using high ISOs and high apertures (low f stops), there is still  no reason to use flash. That is my honest opinion, although others may argue otherwise. Ultra high apertures allow light to flood into the camera’s sensor and also enables you to generate gorgeous out of focus ‘bokeh’ behind your subject.

I’ve known Kristie for a few years now, and her mother Fiona for even longer. Fiona in particular was so so proud of her daughter on her wedding day. The heavens had threatened to open throughout the day, but luckily, the rain held off. There was a fantastic atmosphere right through the day; it was a real pleasure to be part of it. The Holiday Inn and Warmsworth Hall is a fantastic location for a wedding, offering the beauty of the historical hall itself and the friendly and helpful staff of the Holiday Inn complex.

As a side note, if you ever visit Consiton Hall Hotel, don’t trust your Tom-Tom! On my way to the wedding venue,my sat nav diverted me off road, across country, through 2 fields full of sheep to a dead end – luckily I was met by the kindest farmer in the world – who gave me the correct directions!

Doncaster Wedding Photography by Yorkshire Portraits

For the photographers out there, the sun had already set, so light levels were low. I had to use ‘film’ speeds of iso 2800-6400. All of the photos were shot on a Nikon D3 body, with a Nikon 70-200 2.8 VR lens.

Easter Sunday was a perfect day, for the first time in weeks the rain held off, the sun shone all day and the thermometer hit the dizzying heights of 16c!! Best of all, I photographed the beautiful wedding of Craig & Jacqui at The Crown Hotel, Bawrty, just outside Doncaster.

When I blogged about their pre-wedding shoot, I mentioned that Jacqui in particular was dreading being photographed.  When I arrived at their home in Cusworth to photograph the preparations, I was expecting Jacqui to be a bag of nerves – she was anything but  – she was relaxed, confident and totally chilled out, having a laugh with her beautiful bridesmaids, and downing the odd glass of champagne!

I then traveled through Doncaster to the Crown Hotel in Bawtry, to await Jacqui’s arrival with her father.  I took this opportunity to photograph Craig, who had been dreading the photos more than Jacqui if that was at all possible!  He looks like a professional model in training so he too had nothing to worry about!

As you can see above, Jacqui looked absolutely stunning on her wedding day.  It was a pleasure and an honour to capture their big day. A selection of my favourites photos from the wedding day at the Crown Hotel & Bawtry Hall can be seen in the photo montage.

Aston Hall is a perfect wedding location, the staff are so friendly, whilst the building and it’s grounds offer so many varied options for the photographer. From Nat’s goooorgeous vintage white/pink dress, through to an ice cream van which arrived delivering deserts, the wedding was exactly what the couple planned and hoped for. I was honoured to be asked to be one of the two witnesses during the intimate ceremony. As the guests patiently waited outside, I captured the moment as Miss Wood said ‘I do’ to Mr Billau!

Nat & Ryan requested just  three group shots, with a combination of natural and artistically posed funky photographs of my clients, I was able to capture the essence of the day in their wedding photography. Hopefully you agree!

After photographing their big day, I prepared the pictures which Claire and Scott will chose from to be included in their album.  I think I  managed to capture the unforgettable moments that they will treasure for ever, and pass down for generations to come…..speaking of which, I’ve just discovered that Claire and Scott are expecting their very first child!!! I couldn’t have wished for better news for such a great couple.

Tankersley Manor Hotel

These photographs were captured at the beautiful summer wedding of Fiona and Kev.  The ceremony was held at Flaxby Church in Leicester and the reception and wedding breakfast were held at Shearsby Bath. This was a perfect day with bright sunshine until the early evening, however, the bride was even more dazzling and coupled with a handsome groom and a fantastic location, what more could a photographer wish for!

Although I did have one small problem during the day, the vicar would not allow me to take any photographs during the wedding ceremony. He even put a elderly parishioner next to me to ensure that I complied with his request. I’ve never encountered this issue in over 100 weddings, even though I explained I don’t use flash and I’m not intrusive during the service. In order to capture some essential shots the three of us ran back in after the service whilst the vicar was out and recreated the service ourselves!

I’ll be meeting up with Fiona and Kev at least twice over the next twelve months, as they have recommended me to two of their friends, who have since made reservations.
